This Island is known to hold two terrifying races of massive creatures, capable of ripping man apart limb from limb as they consume them.

The first group Odysseus and his crew run into are the Cyclopses, enormous creatures with one singular eye that live a simple, albiet very territorial, lifestyle. They tend to herd massive amounts of sheep while keeping their neighbors back with heavy clubs and boulders. Odysseus runs into one of these giants, a son of Poseidon who in a bastardization of the laws of Hospitality, eats the crew. It is only due to Odysseus' quick wit and cunning that they are able to escape, resorting to stabbing out the beast's eye as it sleeps under the false name of nobody. As it cries out in pain, Odysseus' master plan works perfectly as the cyclops yells out that nobody has blinded him. The crew escape but in a turn of hubris, Odysseus reveals his name to the cyclops, allowing for the beast to curse him with his father's favor.

As the sea trashes about Odysseus' men, they come across a similar threat in of the Lystagonians, massive cannibalistic creatures that effortlessly kill them as they attempt to escape their hungry maws. Only Odysseus, who parked his boat in a separate location is able to flee with his ship and crew intact.

Fun fact, the Lystagonians were based on ancient Sicilian ruins, the men in the statues were known to be humanlike and tall, bringing forth the sailors tale.

Here is a totally accurate retelling of Odysseus' battle against the cyclops
