Sonnets from the Portuguese was published

Elizabeth wrote a collection of 40 sonnets and published them under the name Sonnets from the Portuguese as an attempt at hiding the fact that they were written by her. They dealt with very personal topics, such as grief and courtship, and she was afraid of how the public would have recieved them had they known they were written by herself.
