The Netflix show Stranger Things follows a group of kids who must learn to navigate the threats of an alternate dimension. The Gothic element of the supernatural is evident when these kids learn of the existence of the Demogorgon. The group also aim to help Will through his possession and fragmentation of the self. The settings are eerie, especially in the alternate dimension because of its sort of decaying and wet atmosphere. The most enticing element of this series is the threat of the past, as well as the threat of secrets. Season 1 takes place in 1983 and plays on the exploration of mind-reading that occurred during the Cold War. In Stranger Things, Eleven is representative of this anxiety, as she is someone with telekinesis that has run away from the experimentation site into society. Loss is a major theme of this show, as many characters pass away or are separated from others for a long time and the surrounding characters must deal with the consequences while still battling forces from the other side.
