Within The Wide Sargasso Sea, Antionette refers to what we know as Thornfield Hall as "The Great House." With the assumption that our unnamed narrator is Rochester, it is safe to also assume The Great House Antionette is trapped within is Thornfield hall from Jane Eyre. The two locations marked below serve as inspiration for Brontë, and thus, serve as inspiration for Rhys, even if she was unaware at the time of writing her own rendition of Bertha (Antionette) and her story.
