Title Page for The Blue Moon

Type: Gallery Image | Not Vetted

The detailed design showing a bearded figure in a broad hat standing by a door into a garden is surrounded by an intricate tracery of vines and grapes.

The title page for The Blue Moon was designed by Laurence Housman and engraved by his sister Clemence Housman, who was one of the period's foremost facsimile wood engravers. It was the only reproductive wood engraving included in volume 1 of The Venture (1903), whose artworks, with this single exception, featured original wood engravings designed and cut by the same artist.
