Tower Hamlets is where Nazneen and her family live in London in Monica Ali's novel Brick Lane (2003). It's a borough of London covering much of the traditional East End. It has a significant population of Bengladeshi and British Bengladeshi people as well as a high proportion of Muslims. Brick Lane is located in this borough.
