This project explores how Feminism began to gain momentum through novels in the Victorian age by examining passages in Fanny Fern’s Ruth Hall, and Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre. By examining these novels, we would present a view on how the emerging feminist movement allowed Victiorian women writers to find and use their voice to fight against their oppressors. To further investigate this, we plan on using the content in the novels, the stylistic choices made by the authors, the country in which they were published, the values held by the suffragettes in those countries, and sources that show how the texts influenced feminist transatlantic Victorian women.
