Tyre is a town on the Medieteranian Coast of Southern Lebanon. It is located 12 miles north of the boarder of Isreal and South of Sidon. Sidon is a administrative centre for fishing, trade, market, and agricultural endevore for the area. It also served as the TransArabian Pipeline from Saudi Arabia and was the site of the large oil storage tanks. The towns have references in biblical text all the way through modern times, taking the title of the UNESCO World Heritage center in 1982. With a significant amount of history, the town is referenced through many literary works.

In reference to Tyre and Sidon, Jean Rhys in Voyage in the Dark states,  "When there was a breeze the sea was millions of spangles; and on still days it was purple as Tyre and Sidon." This is a reference to the towns appearance probably during a sunset when the sky turns colors of purple and pink.
