The Victoria & Albert museum is often refered to as the V&A. It was originally called the Museum of Manufactures. The museum moved to old Brompton now refered to as South Kensington. In 1854 it became the South Kensington Museum. In 1899 it was rechristened to the Victoria and Albert museum. It is situated next to the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum. It is important because it houses many important historical items. The permanent collection has over 2.3 million objects. This collection includes sculptures, paintings, jewellery, ceramics, books, art, etc. All these can be seen for free, the museum does not charge an entrance fee.
