Wethersfield, Essex is significant to Jane Eyre (2011) because Charlotte Brontë’s father trained to become a priest in Wethersfield. While there, her father fell in love with a woman but eventually had to leave because the woman’s father did not approve. He moved and ended up meeting Charlotte’s mother, Maria and having children with her. Without his stay in Wethersfield causing him to move and meet eventually Charlotte’s mother, Charlotte Brontë and Jane Eyre would not exist. Patrick Brontë’s training to become a priest was also significant to Charlotte Brontë’s life because it affects how she was raised and parented. I found this information from an academic blog about the city of Essex. This source is an example of peer mentorship because different authors are able to post about different aspects of Essex. This allows these authors to educate other people who are interested in the same topics as them. Mapping this location on COVE adds a grass roots layer to a story usually told top-down because it adds context and a better understanding of events that shaped Charlotte Brontë’s family that could’ve had an effect on her. Usually the background of an author's family is not looked into in regards to the book they write but this allows you to understand some nuances into the man that raised Charlotte Brontë.
