When World War 2 did come around Orwell was rejected from Service in England but did participate in the Indian service. This was the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). In 1943 he left to become an editor of the Tribune (a left wing socialist paper). He essentially wrote reviews on english books and advocated for "libratarian decentralist socialism" which wasn't what the British Labor party supported at the time.
