Born and Young Life

Eric Arthur Blair, also known as, George Orwell, was in Motiheri, Bengal on June 25, 1907. He was the son of a British His father was a minor British official in the Indian civil service. His mother was of the french, and he had two siblings Marjorie and Avril Blair. He was brought up into a snobby lifestyle, which in turn allowed him to attend boarding school in 1911. He attended St. Cyprian's which was in southern England off the coast of Sussex coast, From ages 8 to 11.

1917 to 1921

After Boarding School

Following Orwell's education at boarding school, he had won scolarships to Wellington and Eton. He continued his education from 1917 to 1921. Following that, Orwell chose not to continue his education and rather followed his long family tradition and became apart of the indian imperial poliece force. He served in several different counties, however, while he was anoutstanding officer he began to resent his role in goverment

1927 to 1933

Anti-Imperialism

Following his departure from the Indian Imperial Police Orwell decided not to return to Burma, In 1928 be take several actions to better himself as a writer. His passion for this began as a young boy and Feeling guilty with the barrier to  be able to talk to the Burmese people, Orwell took drastic steps to immerse himself into the poorer fraction of Europe. This experience inspired his first book Down and Out in Paris and London (1933)

1934 to 1934

First Novel and Theme

Following his first book, Orwell then went onto write his first novel Burmese Days (1934). After its publication Orwell became widely known for his showing the sensativity of his characters. These characters were often individuals who were isolated dealing with the rather difficult and oppressing social environment.

1935 to 1936

The 30's and Political Views

The next two years Orwell published Cleryman's Daughter (1935) and a year after Keep the Aspidistra Flying (1936). The entierty of his publication's in the 30's has graudually made him reject the bourgeois lifestyle and political viewpoint. He reffered to himself as an Anarchist for several years. Following this he changed his political view to a socialist, and then finally declared himself as a communist

1937 to 1939

The Socialist...or not

Now labled as a socialist Orwell published his first book with these socialist views in his book The Road to Wingan Pier (1937). The novel ends in harsh and sharp critisism in the socialist movement. While this novel was being publish Orwell resided in Spain to report on the Civil War and ended up participating in the war. Unfortunalty, he was severly injured in his throat which affected his speech permanently. His experience in spain left him with a hatred in Communism which inspired his next book Homage to Catalonia (1938).

1940 to 1945

World War 2

When World War 2 did come around Orwell was rejected from Service in England but did participate in the Indian service. This was the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). In 1943 he left to become an editor of the Tribune (a left wing socialist paper). He essentially wrote reviews on english books and advocated for "libratarian decentralist socialism" which wasn't what the British Labor party supported at the time.

1944 to 1950

Animal Farm, 1984, and Death

Just before the ending year of World War 2 Orwell finished Animal Farm (1944) which is arguably his most famous piece, despite the difficulty of getting it published. That was soon overshadowed by his next novel Nineteen Eighty Four (1949). This was written after his long resentment against the Natzism and Stalinism. His final novel of Nineteen Eighty Four (1949) in his remote house in Hebriden island which he worked on in between his hospital visits. George Orwell soon passed away in January 1950 in London.
