York Place was an area in London designed with the intent of providing modern infrastructure to the growing population and came to consist of both high- and middle-class people. In The Romance of a Shop, York Place is the location of Frank Jermyn and Mr. Oakley's engraving studio.
"’Oh, Frank Jermyn? he's an artist; works chiefly in black and white for the illustrated papers, I think. He and another man have a studio in York Place together.’" (VI)
