National Registry of Scotland figures released today indicate that there were 109 drug-related deaths in Edinburgh in 2021. This is an increase on previous years and the highest ever recorded in Edinburgh. The numbers reflect 109 tragedies for individuals, families and our community.

According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) for 2019, approximately 17.4% of individuals aged 12 or older in New York State (including New York City) reported using illicit drugs in the past year.
The number of opioid-related overdose deaths has been a significant concern. In 2019, there were 1,241 drug overdose deaths involving any opioid in New York City, according to the New York City Department of Health.
