Published only a short time after Machen's The Great God Pan, The Three Impostors (1895) was also illustrated by Aubrey Beardsley and was Machen's second work to appear as part of John Lane's Keynotes series, Machen was one of only a handful of authors to have more than one work published in this distinguished series.
