Allahabad is a city in the state of Uttar Pradesh in the north of India. It was formerly under control of the Mughal Empire in the early seventeenth century. The British acquired Allahabad in 1801, and the city participated in the Indian Mutiny of 1857. After the rebellion, the British used the city as an administrative center.
