This piece was made by the artist Joseph Mallord in 1803. He used the medium of using oil on canvas to allow the colors to be vivid and livily. This painting depicts the ferry which is flying a British flag in the port of Calais. This painting is based on a real life event during the Romantics era which is seen as important to the era.

This piece relates to the Romantics based on the style of paint that was used during this era and the technique which was included as well. It is seen using the major elements which is center piece and a center focused painting.
