Christina volunteering at penitentiary

Type: Gallery Image | Not Vetted

Rosetti volunteered at St Mary Magdalene Penitentiary which was an inspiration for the text.In 1859 volunteered and it was known as a refugee and instution meant for "fallen women", as of women who didnt wait for marriage, and engaged in sexual acts.Women from all spectrums were sheltered here such as prostitues, normally these women were excluded due to the victorian society and era since women being sexual were seen as deviant acts. The instution was set into place to help revamp these women. And this was a symbol of the goblin fruit tht christina used in Goblin market as temptation since prostitues used there work for money, and enjoyment.
