"Gwendolen at the Gaming-Table" by H. Winthrop Pierce

For the novel Daniel Deronda,  H. Winthrop Pierce (1850-1935) composed first two illustrations displayed in this exhibit: "Gwendolen at the Gaming-Table" and "Grandcourt and Gwendolen and the Poisoned Diamonds," respectively. The third illustration, "Gwendolen," is by Frederic Dielman, who also illustrated scenes from Adam Bede, Felix Holt, and Middlemarch. The last two scenes, "Deronda Meets his Mother" and "Deronda and Mirah," are by Frederick W. Freer (1849-1908), better known as F.W. Freer.
