Dudley, England is significant to Frankenstein because director James Whale grew up living in Dudley for 28 years and moved to Hollywood after he became a lieutenant in the first World War and found his passion for film and acting while being held as a war prisoner at Holzminden Camp. This information was found through a fan website called Classic Monsters that explains the lives of important figures in the film industry. This source is an example of a platform as a gatekeeper website because it only allows official posts to be made and is curated by editors and and owners rather then an open community where all viewers can comment. While it allows the viewers to make a comment to the owners at the bottom of the page, there is no ability for the viewers to upload their own opinions or posts. Mapping this location on COVE makes the stories and experiences of James Whale into a real place that gatekeeping websites would not reveal to the viewers. It allows us to see the connection of his past and what led him to work on a film in Hollywood.
