The Ohio State Reformatory is significant to The Shawshank Redemption because it is the location at where the movie was filmed. This was in fact a real prison and was holding prisoners from 1896-1990, and was closed due to a federal court order against poor or inhumane living conditions. I found this information from the official reformatory website. This source is an example of passive consumption, because the audience can’t interact with the museums website. The viewers can only view what they want to see and can’t add to the page. Mapping this location on COVE helps viewers be able to interact with the location and its history.
