Scotland Yard refers to the police headquarters in London, responsible for all the boroughs of London (but excluding the City of London). The rear entrance at the original headquarters at 4 Whitehall Place faced a street named Great Scotland Yard, which became the public entrance. Eventually, the place and the police force became synonymous. In 1890, the police force relocated to a new building dubbed “New Scotland Yard.” Headquarters has moved a few more times and is presently located at the Curtis Green Building, though it retains the name New Scotland Yard.
