   The Goblin market used symbols and imagery to explain the dept of the view of women in this period of time. This poem opens up about womens sexual aspect in this certain century amd how they were suppose to be seen as pure, and angelic, this poem by Christina Rosetti explains the tempation and dangers of sin which is symbolized throughout the poem.Women were sought to be pure only to be wanted and married by men.Based on Victorian era, and the commentary this poem is set on in this early era strict rules about sexuality was set in place.Women virginty was seen as purity and looked upon while others without it were seen as prostitues and looked down upon.Pre raphaelite showed woman as sexual creatures, and challenge of gender norms.Women and gender roles in the nineteenth century is also inbedded by Christina in Goblin market from the time period of nineteenth century women were suppose to stay pure for their husbands, and care only for the household while men had the opportunity to be sexual and be the provider of the household over women.

Christina volunteering at penitentiary

Rosetti volunteered at St Mary Magdalene Penitentiary which was an inspiration for the text.In 1859 volunteered and it was known as a refugee and instution meant for "fallen women", as of women who didnt wait for marriage, and engaged in sexual acts.Women from all spectrums were sheltered here such as prostitues, normally these women were excluded due to the victorian society and era since women being sexual were seen as deviant acts.The instution was set into place to help revamp these women. This asylum which was open from the 18th century to the 20th century was more than likely like the penitentary christina voulnteered at.Known as Magdalene laundries was a place that women such as "fallen women"prostitues,young mothers who werent married, and stranded young women who were looked down upon worked to make a living which the society wasnt going to give them based on their backgrounds.Althought this did give fallen women a chance these laudnaries were seen as penetintary warehouse for women, which in a way was punishing them but being looked at as helping them since this was...

Goblin market has some interpertations of adam and eve regarding that fruit was used in both as a temptation of sin. Just as Goblin market Adam and eve represented Good versus evill, and stregnth to fight sin which both women failed.The serpent which can be used as imagery in Goblin market as the Goblins which decieved lizzie into eating the fruit as the serpent did to Eve.Although the expectations of good and evil was set into place by God a higher power in adam and eve versus in the Goblins market these expectations were put onto women from men within the era and society.
