From the ages of 10 to 25, Emily Dickinson lived in her family's home on Pleasant Street in Amherst, Massachesetts, to which a cemetery resided next door. During this time, Emily would have seen multiple friends and family members buried within its gates, so it is only fair that she developed an obsession with death and seemed to welcome it rather than fear it. Her bedroom window overlooked the grounds of the cemetery and she would often pass it in her daily travels.
