Westminster Bridge is a road-and-foot-traffic bridge over the Thames in Central London, linking Westminster on the west side and Lambeth on the east side. It was originally built between 1739 and 1750. By the mid-nineteenth century, the bridge was subsiding badly and expensive to maintain, so a new bridge was designed by Thomas Page and opened on 24 May 1862. Westminster Bridge is a 250m long, 26m wide, seven-arch, cast-iron bridge with Gothic detailing by Charles Barry. It is the oldest road bridge across the Thames in central London.
