New York City is a city in the state of New York in the northeastern United States. It is situated on New York Harbor, one of the largest natural harbors in the world. It has been the most populous city in the United States since 1790. It is comprised of five boroughs—Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Long Island. It is home to the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island (the entry point for millions of immigrants to the US), and the United Nations headquarters. Well-known locales include Times Square, the Empire State Building, the Broadway Theatre District, and the New York Stock Exchange.
