Week #12 Blog Post

This week I found it incredibly interesting to listen to everyone's Capstone presentation. Not only did I get to enjoy everyones presentations but I felt it was the perfect recap of many of the major themes we studied this semester. I also thought it was interesting to see the different interpretations of each illustrated text as well as the different interpretations the same illustrated novels in different ways.

Blog Post Week 11

I found myself very excited today after the lecture. In group discussions I got the opportunity to converse about Goblin Market and discuss the different angles being taken on the Illustrated novel. I was able to share my ideas and talk to classmates about their presentations as well. I had a few curiosities surrounding the project and was glad to talk to the other people working on the same text and illustrations to help me out. Overall I gained insight onto more of the dialogue surrounding Goblin Market.

Discussion Post #10

I found the topic of Undisciplining Victorian Studies in this class's discussion to be very interesting. Historically speaking Victorian studies have been seen as a prodominetly white community, not much of the literature was written or published by people of colour. Many works that have been studied have been dug up and rediscovered.

ENG 910- Blog Post week 8

I really enjoyed this weeks conversation about Laurence Housmans The House of Joy . From seeing Laurence Housmans artistic work in renditions of Goblin Market it was really interesting to see his writing as well. I personally enjoyed the discussion on "Luck of Roses" which brought up the topic of homosexual relationships in the victorian era. I though it was interesting to see where that conversation led and listen to the conversation on some of the difficulties that faced the lgtbq community in the victorian era as well as many in todays world.

ENG 910- Blog Post #5

While going over the curations for the different "Globlin Market"  versions through the years and while studying my own assignment of the Beyond the looking glass rendition of "Globlin Market" I took into account the audience for the poem. Through the years the target audience has been changed even though the text has been the same. Though it was not originally meant for children and was seen as an adult text, through the years it has been interpreted as a childrens text at times.

Blog Post #3

While working on the annotations today for A Christmas Carol I got to thinking specifcially about how much in text goes over the mind. When you read a text so many times your mind goes at a spead that if you brush over a word that is not fully familiar to you it does not phase your reading. The activity we did today allowed us to individually slowly analyze the text and grab further context on the victorian era. I felt that looking through the annotations made my peers I was so much more informed on certain phrases and meaning.

Blog Post #2

In today's class while in our smaller groups I got the opportunity to look into the illistrative novel "The Were-Wolf" by Clemence Housman published in 1896. I was suprised when we were doing our research by the feminist tones presented and even that the novel was written by a woman. When previously looking into victorian texts in my previous years I have noticed an overwhelming oppression of women through the roles that women placed.

Blog Post #1 - ENG 910

After the seminar today and the introduction I feel like I am really excited to continue to learn more about the victorian era. There was a sentence today in the zoom call that stood out to me as interesting and it was along the lines of " everything is centred around the victorian era" and while I look back at the course load ive taken to earn my degree I find that it is very true. Many of the texts that i've read center around the victorian era and many of the similar themes can be seen in more modern texts.
