The reign of terror was a major historical event that took place between September 5th, 1793, and July 27th, 1794, falling in the romantic period, and was a huge part of the French revolution. During the reign of terror, 16,594 death sentences had been given out. Beyond this, about another 10,000 people had either died in prison or been executed without the chance to go to trial, bringing the death count during this time period up to almost 27,000.
