Roman London's Forum and Basilica
In AD 122, the construction of Londinium's forum and basilica was completed. The forum was a large public gathering area that acted as a marketplace and attached was the town's basilica. The basilica, nearly three stories high, was their town hall or civic center which housed many administrators and court cases. The basilica was a place for legal and business transactions to be carried out, while the attached forum was a place to visit shops and socialize. At the time the basilica was the largest building north of the alps which shows London's significance as an important city in the Roman Empire.
