The London government in October 1957, proposed that the London County Council (LLC) be replaced by a council for the wider London. Later, the Greater London Council (GLC) was created to operate over the larger London, instead of just locally. This change in government strategy was a large change for London in the 1950s and this reflects some of the governing changes that earlier occurred in 19th century London. For example, in the 19th century, there was a shift of authority moving from the Beadles to the Police force in 1829, and later to a specialized detective branch. The specialization of authoritative forces occurred in 19th century London and continued through the 20th century.
