The French industrial revolution is another very important event in history that partially occurred during the romantic period, starting at around 1760 and lasting until 1840. This revolution was all about being as efficient as possible for every industry out there. One of the biggest and most popular industries at the time was the clothing industry where factory workers would have to work with textile machines in order to produce the clothing at the right speed. Because this revolution was all about getting product out fast, the machines had to work fast, ultimately proposing danger to the workers that directly interacted with them. In addition to immediate physical dangers that workers were exposed to, there were also longer-term sicknesses that workers got due to unsanitary conditions. One example of this was a disease called Byssinosis that took place in the lungs.
Ultimately, because of the dangers that came from the French industrial revolution, and how common death was due to complications from work, I think the feelings that people with the illnesses and their families had during these times that are distinct to humans is an important example of what it means to be human.
