"Mountanious and icy islands stretch 480 miles between Icy Bay, Alaska, and the small city of Ketchikan, Alaska. Throughout this portion of Southeast Alaska, British Columbia, and Yukon Territory, a group of 16,000 live on an area that has been occupied for at least 11,000. years. This narrow strip of land is the place the Tlingit people call home." - https://thetlingitpeople.weebly.com/index.html

"I have tried to write from a sense of place and self. The body of my writing comes from living part of my life with elders who followed the traditional way. My writing is also greatly influenced by my research in Tlingit language and literature. I find beauty in Tlingit language and literature. By writing, I feel that I'm passing on some of the intellectual and spiritual beauty of my family and people to my children and grandchildren, and to whoever else may read my books. One of my motives is to counter negative stereotypes and misinformation about my people. Another motive is to help others gain a better sense of self in confusing and adverse times." - Nora Marks Dauenhauer
