Tolkien was born January 3rd, 1892.  In addition to his most well known books, he published several other stories including The Adventures of Tom BombadilThe Road Goes Ever On, Leaf by Niggle.  Tolkien died in September 2nd, 1973 and even after his death his writings continued to be published by his son, Christopher Tolkien.
