Weight of the World on a Womans Shoulder

Type: Gallery Image | Not Vetted

Jules Joseph Lefebvre 1875 Chloe

In my installation I will have three paintings. The room will be dimly lit to keep a somber atmosphere, but each of the painting will have a spotlight shining on them. It will not be a bright white bulb. The light bulb will be a light-yellow hue so to pull out the colors of the paintings. The walls in the room will be eggshell colored. The first painting the visitors will see in the room will be the Chloe suspended from the ceiling in the middle of the room. The Model by the Wicker Chair will be mounted on the right wall. The Woman Bathing La Toilette will be mounted on the left wall. The ones on the side walls will be deeper into the room than the one suspended from the ceiling because I want the people visiting my installation to see the Chloe first. The spotlight for the Chloe will be a light bar like you would see in a theater. It will be above it. The lights for the two on the side walls will be floor lights pointing up. In the background will be playing some soft opera music just to stimulate the environment, but it will be music only by female musicians. I want this to be a very feminine strong environment.

In my installation “Weight of the World on a Woman’s Shoulder”, I have three paintings. One is “Chloe”, “Model by the Wicker Chair”, and “Woman Bathing La Toilette”. I chose this title because all these women seem to be doing everyday tasks, but they all seem down. The color schemes in all these paintings are very somber. I chose for the Chloe to be in the middle of the room suspended from the ceiling because I want this to be the first painting that is seen. I chose this one to be the first as I believe it is demonstrating “the perfect body”. I want you to see the somber environment of what a very confident woman is seemingly. “Chloe is the beautiful but heavy women”.  Heavy is not in the sense of weight, but in her mind. There is her naked body near her blue clothing. The blue is to show the heaviness on her shoulders, but her posture seems to show a glimpse of hope and how she is thinking to improve this heaviness. Then after this you can move to either of the images mounted on the wall. The two paintings on the side walls where the women seem a little less confident and more stressed, but all three women are beautiful. The next painting The Model by the Wicker chair would have the small description of a “woman weighed down by her thoughts” because of how she is slouched over and just seems distraught. She is not making eye contact with the viewer. There is also blue in this painting, but this one is a bit more chaotic as if the woman has too much on her mind and she is unsure where to begin to gain control. Where as in the Chloe it seems she has a plan by her standing more upright and her facial experession is not as long as the other.  The last painting “Woman Bathing La Toilette” I would give a description of “debriefing after the long day of being a woman”. This description is fitting because she is washing up and I feel like this is where people go at the end of the day just to relax at the end of the day before bed. The woman in this one is also slouched over, and the color scheme gives a somber affect. Her being in the bathroom washing up and her nakedness almost gives hope of a push to try again tomorrow and wash away today.  These three images are all related in the sense of they all give a somber, depressive vibe, but the first one the viewers will see show “a perfect woman’s body”. I chose the latter two images placement because I want people to see all woman are beauty and have hardships. All three woman seem to be heavy but striving to find better. The chloe seems to be more on the way to hopefulness, and the Model by the wicker chair is more chaotic but this chaos could be the push to get the wight off a woman's shoulder.
