Livorno or Leghorn, is where Emily goes after she is unable to find any ships going to France from Pisa. So they spend the night there and then the next morning go to Leghorn (461-2). A fun fact about Leghorn is the Italian Naval academy is located there.
This is the mountainous terrain where the castle is located. It acts as a divder between the two sides of Italy and goes through Tuscany.

Emily, Annette, Ludovico, and Du Pont cross the Arno river by moonlight as they make their escape from Udolpho. (461). It has always been a key transit route between the sea and the Appenines.

Marseilles is an old port city, founded by the Greeks in 600 BC. It has been known as an immigration and trade route since then.

Emily, Count Montoni, and Madame Montoni travel through Milan on their journey towards Venice. At this time, the countryside was war-stricken, the fields trampled by soldiers and groves of trees torn down to light fires. However, Milan is now known for its art, fashion, and design, and Radcliffe mentions briefly the famous cathedral of Milan, which was at this point in the story in the process of being built.
