Hyde Park

Hyde Park is a major park in central London, established by Henry VIII in 1536. It first opened to the public in 1637 and became popular for its May Day parades.

Morant Bay, Jamaica

Morant Bay is a town in southeast Jamaica and the capital of St. Thomas parish, located east of the capital, Kingston. During the nineteenth century, the parish was an area of sugar cane plantations. The Morant Bay Rebellion of 1865 began as a protest by local citizens against the country’s poor economic and social conditions.

Battersea

Battersea is a district in southwest London. From the late eighteenth century, Battersea was established as an industrial area that was radically altered by the building of railways, which resulted in a significant population increase. Today, the area houses the New Covent Garden Market as well as the Royal Academy of Dance. 

Newport

Newport is a cathedral city in southeast Wales. It has been a port since medieval times, and until the rise of Cardiff from the 1850s, Newport was the largest coal-exporting port in Wales. Today, Newport is an important manufacturing and engineering center. Related BRANCH Article: Chris R.

Ghazni

The capital of the Ghazni Province in Afghanistan, Ghazni is an ancient city which has withstood numerous military invasions. The city was partially destroyed in the First Anglo-Afghan War and is now a trading and transit hub in central Afghanistan.

Kandahar

Also known as Qandahar, historically Candahar, the city is the second largest in Afghanistan. It is the capital of the Kandahar Province, and it is one of the most culturally significant cities of the Pashtuns.

The Bolan Pass

This mountain pass is located in western Pakistan and has been used as a gateway to and from South Asia. The pass, which connects Jacobabad and Sibi with Quetta, was important to the history of the British campaigns in Afghanistan.

Queen Square in Bristol

Queen Square is a garden square in the center of Bristol. Finished in 1727, the square was originally a fashionable residential area. Much of the north and west sides of the square were destroyed during the Bristol Riots in 1831, and were then rebuilt.
