This map will pinpoint the actual locations referenced in the plot of Elizabeth Gaskell's Mary Barton and that are connected to the issues raised in the novel regarding class, the industrial revolution and its effects on the working poor and the Captains of Industry-their masters, and the travels of sailors in the British Royal Navy across the reaches of the British Empire.
