Bruno and Shmuel, talk about Europe and Bruno claims that Poland is in Denmark but actually both boys are in Poland. 

Mustafa is granted a government scholarship at the age of 15 to attend University in London. After graduating he spends his days lecturing economics at the University of London. Mustafa lives in London until he decided to return to Sudan and become a farmer. Much happens to Mustafa while living in London and he ends up getting himself into a bit of trouble. This is what prompts him to return to Sudan and live a simpler life.

Bruno goes off adventuring into the woods and he discovers a boy names Shmuel, who on the otherside of the fence. Shmuel explains to Bruno that his family was forced out of his home in Cracow, Poland by soldiers. Shmuel is a young Jewish Boy who is living in the concentration camps.  

While in school in Khartoum it is discovered that Mustafa is a child prodigy. He is so advanced that the headmistress tells him that he should go study abroad. So at the age of 12 Mustafa is sent to Cairo to attend high school. While here Mustafa is taken care of by the Robinsons who treat him like their son. He spends 3 years studying here.

Bruno and his family move out of Germany to what Bruno called "out-with" which is really Auschwitz, in Poland, becasue his father is a Commander in the German army and his home is right next to the concentration camp.

This is the birthplace of the main character of this novel Mustafa Sa’eed. Mustafa is not a local in the village and the narrator soon learns that he moved to the village 5 years before he returned. Mustafa has a very mysterious past but is well loved by the villagers. This book is centered around the narrator discovering Mustafa’s past.

This is also the place where the narrator begins working after returning to Sudan and spending some time in his village. The narrator begins a job here and starts a family but still travels back to visit Wad Hamid.

Seasons of Migration begins with the narrator returning home to the village where he grew up after studying in Europe for 7 years. The narrator is happy to be home and the villagers are happy to have him back. After his first day back, he regains a sense of rootedness and belonging. “I hear a bird sing or a dog bark or the sound of an axe on wood—and I feel a sense of stability, I feel that I am important, that I am continuous and integral. No, I am not a stone thrown into the water, but seed sown in a field” (Salih 6).

A little boy named Bruno comes home one day to discover that he and his family are moving to another home becasue his father's job in the army requires him to move around with his family, wherever he is stationed.
