Moor House, Jane Eyre

After Jane leaves Thronfield, she wanders to the Moor house. She is taken in by people who she later found to be her cousins. She inherits money and starts to live her life and settle. She marries her cousin and seems happy with her new life, but she is not 100% content. Still, this place is comforting for her for a while and she describes it as teh followoimg

Thornfield, Jane Eyre

Thre next location is where Jane has a big change in her life. Thornfield is where she gets a job, falls in love, and is then heartbroken. A cloud of misery seems to follow her to each location and this pattern continues here. This is very relevant as it is a Gothic novel. As she leaves Thornfield after finding out the man she fell in love with, Mr. Rochester, is already married. She says the following:

Lowood School Jane Eyre

Jane's next location is Lowood school. She comes here to start her life and get away from her aunt and cousins. She soon found happiness in the form of a friend, Helen, but it was short lived nad her misery had taken over again. Her friend died and she said the following:

"From the day she left I was no longer the same; with her was gone every settled feeling, every association that had made Lowood in some degree a home to me" (Bronte)

Gateshead, Jane Eyre

In Jane Eyre, most of the places are fictional. The novel is supposed to be set in Northern England of the time period. There are assumptions and maps (attached) of where these locations are supposed to be, which I will be using to pin locations on this map.

Krawiecka Street- "If I Should Die Before I Wake"

Krawiecka Street is located near the ghettos. Chana often sneaks off to this street to explore the House of Culture. The location of this place is significant because it is outside the ghetto. Chana is risking her life by escaping the ghettos to experience this place of music since she would almost definetly be killed if she were caught. It provides her with a small amount of hope and joy amidst the chaos that surrounds her.
