Leighlinbridge

Leighlinbridge is a small town on the River Barrow in County Carlow, Ireland. It contains Leighlinbridge Castle, one of Ireland’s first Norman castles, and the ruin of the first Carmelite priory in Ireland.

Seine

The Seine is a 777-kilometer long river in the north of France. It begins in Source-Seine in northeastern France, flows through Paris, and empties into the English Channel at Le Havre. It is an important commercial and popular recreational waterway.

In the early half of the 19th century, the Church of England was the authoritative voice on scientific matters. However, discoveries and books such as Charles Darwin’s, On the Origins of Species, resulted in a burgeoning divide between theology and science. For many Victorians this challenged their faith as these new scientific discoveries conflicted with the authority and dogma of the church.
