Cleveland

Somersetshire home of Mr. and Mrs. Palmer, Mrs. Jennings’s other daughter, that serves as a convenient stopover for Elinor and Marianne on their return from London to Barton Cottage. Here, primarily from self-neglect, Marianne contracts an infectious fever, giving Colonel Brandon the chance to serve her by going after her mother. A drunken Willoughby appears, having heard that Marianne is dying, to beg her forgiveness for his marrying for money and to insist that he loves only her. Marianne recovers and comes to appreciate Colonel Brandon’s devotion.

Strange Victorians Timeline

The Victorian period was one of great change for Britain. Comprised of the years of Queen Victoria’s reign (1837-1901), it featured the rapid industrialization and urbanization of Britain, and the radical expansion of the British empire. Although these changes improved the quality of life for some Victorians, many more were forced to work under inhumane conditions, live in unsanitary and insalubrious environments, or suffered the violent oppressions of colonial rule.

Barton Cottage

The Barton Cottage is where the Dashwood girls, Mrs.Dashwood, Elinor, Marianne, and Margaret, were invited to live after they were dismissed from their previous home.  The cottage is located in Mr. Middleton's property.  The Barton Cottage was described to be small, compact and pratical. The building was described as regualr, the roof was tiled, the window shutters were not painted and the walls did not have honeysuckle. The cottage contained two sitting rooms which were about 16 feet squared.

Norland Park

The family of Dashwoods were established in the land of Sussex for a fair amount of time.  The estate was large and had a respectable mannor at the center of the property. The history of possesion in the book Sense and Sensibility begins with a single bachelor who invites his nephew, Mr. Henry Dashwood, the legal inheritor, to live with him. Mr. Henry Dashwood was in two marriages which produced a total of 4 children. In the first marriage was a male and the second 3 girls. Legally, John Dashwood, the son was entitled to all of the inheritance of Norland Park. Mr.
