The East India Company
The East India Company, located in Leaden Hall st, held a monopoly on the opium trade starting in 1793. This monopoly required all poppy growers in India to no longer sell to any other competing opium traders. This company played a huge role in furthering British imperialism. Initially, this company was just involved in the spice trade but later became a huge catalyst for the use and access to opium. This company used slave labor as many others did at that time.
Victorian Fantasy
The Victorian Era is when fantasty and fantastical worlds really being to flourish in literature. This interest in fantasy worlds could be seen as an opposition to the scientific and realism movements that accompanied the Industrial Revolution. The Gothic movement also helped build a foundation for this fantastical movement because it brought back an interest into medieval folklore and fairytales.
Kubla Kahn to Narnia
Narnia took place in london. the plot took place in 1900s and is in the grassy meadows of london. though i thought most of london was city life and not very rural the story and setting of nanrnia showases cmplete otherwise as battles taake place in large mountains over wide plains. kubla kahn took place in china and narnia in london. though they are distant places they both have very strategic priciples for how they eorship their kings and principles. this being refelcted briefly in both stories.
