Perusing the “sale by auction” section of The London Times has become somewhat of a habit, though, more often than not, the listings I find are of little interest to me. However, today’s publication promised quite an exciting agenda. There are several fine paintings and other objects that have caught my eye in the catalog, and I fully intend to acquire them for my collection.

What a glorious day! As I was perusing a travel guide, I came across a magnificent poem about the city of Venice. The vivid imagery of the sea flowing through the streets and the majestic palaces and statues made me long to visit the otherworldly scene once again.

And oh how I wish I could experience its beauty with my lovely Phyllis by my side! Her beauty would complement the splendor of Venice perfectly. As I read the poem, I pictured us gliding through the canals in a gondola, her eyes wide with wonder as she takes in the marble palaces…

It has been two years now since my darling Phyllis was overcome by consumption, yet barely a day goes by that I do not think of her. I vividly remember the last time I saw her, before her sister took her away from me. She looked absolutely stunning in that long white gown, the way it highlighted her pale skin and stood in stark contrast to her brown hair.
