Château de Versailles

The Ancien Régime's secondary palace. In a grand example of excess, this castle was used as a secondary housing (eventually becoming more common than the Louvre) to avoid residing in the capital (which was too crowded for the royalty). Therefore, this residence became the primary location of the monarchy.

In terms of geography, it is located Southwest of the Louvre (and Paris, generally).

Haiti

Former French colony known as Saint-Domingue. It was the first instance of enslaved people succesfully revolting from their colonizers (in this case, the French), gaining freedom. The Haitian Revolution took place from 1791-1804.
