Hirwaun

A village near Merthyr. Hirwaun means "long moorland." In Hirwaun and in nearby Aberdare, workers looted shops, obtaining munitions. It was also to Hirwaun that the crowd brought Lewis Lewisyn's trunk, which became a talismanic object.

Hirwaun today (Wikimedia Commons). In 1831, this war memorial was not yet built.
