Thames River

The Thames River is the longest and most famous river in England, flowing through London and southern England. The name of the river is dervied from the Brittonic name for it, Tamesas. Throughout history, it has been a hubub of human activity, leading to the creation of London and Oxford, as well as several other major cities. The Thames River has lead to much of the commerce in England.

St. Kitt's (IN)

St. Kitt’s is a state made up of two islands in the Caribbean and was discovered by Christopher Columbus during his second voyage in 1493. He renamed the island St. Christopher and later the name was shortened to St. Kitt’s by settlers of Sir Thomas Warner. When the British first began arriving it caused majority of the Carib and Arawak inhabitants to die from fighting, slavery, or disease. The island began to populate with people traveling from England in the 1600s and was established as the first English colony in the West Indies.

Spain

Spain is one of two European countries that inhabit the Iberian P in the Westernmost part of Europe. During the 1700s, Spain went through major political reform following the War of Spanish Succession in the early 1700s. The country had just shifted hands from the Hapsburg Dynasty to the rule of Phillip V.

Deptford (IN)

Deptford is an area in Southeast London on the Southern bank of the River Thames located in the borough of Lewisham. It is best known for being the location of the Deptford Dockyard which was the first Royal Dockyards and a major shipping dock in England and internationally with Russian leader Peter the Great even staying there for an extended period of time.

Georgia- IN

Georgia was an established colony in the 1730s, under the rule of James Oglethorpe. It was one of the last colonies of the English north American territories. It was established in a place of a defense buffer for South Carolina. The first-year settlers made a home in the colony was 1733. Taking over established native American lands, still ruled by trustees of the British crown. Slavery was first utilized for economic growth. Georgia was a big part of the revolutionary war of 1775-83, which ended in the colony joining the United States of America.

Ireland

Ireland is a place mentioned multiple times in, "A Modest Proposal". Ireland is an island in the North Atlantic, and is also a part of northwest Europe. It is the second largest of the British Isles, and is known for its' beautiful coastlines, villages, and towns. During the time of writing though, Ireland seemed to be having a failing economy, which Johnathon Swift makes light of in  "A Modest Proposal".

Guernsey

Guernsey is an island located in the English Channel, and it is the second largest in the English Channel. Historically, Guernsey has had a mix of British and Norman culture, yet British culture has typically dominated. During the 18th century, Guernsey residents began to settle in North America, notably in Guernsey County, Ohio. On the island itself, its close proximity to the English Coast and the European continent gave it excellent success in maritime trade. Furthermore, wars in Spain and France allowed for Guernsey shipowners to further exploit its neighbors trading needs.
