Deutschland

German for Germany. Germany is a central European country. It is the fifth largest country in Europe. Germany is bordered by Denmark, Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, and France. Germany contains sixteen states. Germany is known for its metalworking, chemical production, shipbuilding, and machinery manufacturing.

Switzerland

Switzerland is a landlocked European country. It is bordered by Italy, France, Germany, Austria, and Liechtenstein. Switzerland is divided from Italy by Lake Lugano and the Alpine Crests. Switzerland has three official languages: French, German, and Italian. Its major exports are pharmaceuticals, watches, machinery, precision instruments, metals, jewellery, and electronics.

Turin

Turin is a city in the Turin province of Italy. It is located near two major rivers, the Po and Dora Riparia, and as such is a major transportation and business hub. Many buildings in Turin date from the 17th to 19th century.

Orta

Orta is a lake in the Novara province of Italy.  It is occasionally called Lake Cusio. Orta  gives water to the town of Omegna and contains the islet of San Giulio.

Baveno

Baveno is a village in Italy. It is located in the Novara Province. There is a Health Resort with mineral water within the village, and there are boat rides to the Borromean Islands.

Saint Gotthard

Saint Gotthard is a range of Lepontine Alps in Switzerland. The Saint Gotthard pass ruins across the range in the Lepontine Alps. The path was originally built in the 11th century. The Saint Gotthaard railroad is used to connect Ticino to the rest of Switzerland.

Simplon

The Simplon Pass is located in Valais, Switzerland. It passes through the Lepontine Alps. The Simplon Railroads passes through two tunnels, Simplon Tunnels I and II, which are the longest in the world. These tunnels cross the Swiss-Itaalian border and are an important trade route.

Lugano

Lugano is a district in Ticino, Switzerland. The main town of the district is also named Lugano. It is an Italian-speaking district. The town is located on the Italian border and near the edges of Lake Lugano. It is known for tourism, international banking, and chocolate. 

Porlezza

Porlezza is an Italian village located on the edge of Lake Lugano. Porlzza is on the route to Lugano, and is located across a mountain from Menaggio on Lake Como.

Tyrol

Tyrol is a province in Austria. It borders on Germany, Italy, and Switzerland. It is named after the castle of Tirol near Merano. Tyrol contains the Brenner Pass, which has given it a strategic role throughout history.
