Spring Fever

George Weslow

The sun grows radiant
on the dew on the grass,
and the groundhog sees his shadow
and Winter has passed.

Flowers come alive
colored in a hundred shades,
and the frosted ground
into soft warmth fades.

The feel of Spring
is heavy in the air,
and the songs of the wild
can be heard everywhere.

The migrating birds
have come back to nest,
in the alluring Northland
the land they love best.

Young hearts come alive
under the hypnotic spell of Spring,
and lighthearted young people
talk of bells and wedding rings.

The farmer is thinking
of the crops he will raise,
and of the rich green grass
where his cattle will graze.

The bachelor is thinking
of changing his life,
and his sweetheart is thinking
of becoming his wife.

The naturalist is thinking
of the sweet honeydew,
and Honey,
I'm just thinking of you.
