How I Read Bleak House

The process I went through to complete the reading is probably very different to what others have done. This entire week I'm in Colorado, and am attending my cousin's wedding, so I am trying to finish as much work as I can before this weekend. Reading 17 chapters of Bleak House, which I calculated to be 139 pages with is equivalent to 97,506 words, was quite daunting. I decided to listen to Bleak House in most of my free time, and was able to finish it on Tuesday.

Portman Square London

In chapter 19, Dr. Strange, Mary, and Alison have dinner at Portman Square. At the dinner, Alison implicitly informs Dr. Strange that she knows that patient twenty-seven was his mistress. Portman Square is a garden square located in Marylebone London.

Portman Square

In Chapter 20 Mary receives a letter from Alison who staying at a place in Portman Square while she recovers from an illness. At first her sickness seems like a common cold, but the tone towards the end of the chapter is daunting and serious. If Alison is very ill, this location could be the place she spends her last days.

Cape Cornwall

Mary suggests that an ailing young woman should visit "the Cape". Cape Cornwall is a place where two bodies of water meet and is known for its scenic nature. The Cape was once believed to be the farthest western point of Cornwall before the Ordnance Survey. Cape Cornwall once had a thriving mining industry and most of the land is now owned by the National Trust.
