Jane Eyre (2011) is Cary Fukunaga’s film adaptation of Charlotte Brontë’s 1847 novel. This map outlines real places connected to the film: where it was shot, the real places that inspired or stood in for Brontë’s fictional settings (Gateshead, Lowood, Thornfield, Moor House, and Ferndean), where Brontë lived and worked, where the cast and crew were born and built their careers, and key sites from the film’s production and release. We are going to put all of this together on one map, showing how a story set in the north of England got picked up and remade in Derbyshire’s Peak District by people from the United States, Australia, England, Ireland, Germany, Italy, and Brazil. COVE’s mapping tools let us see the novel and the film side by side and connect to a bigger point: adaptations keep changing as new tools let more people remix and reimagine stories themselves.
